Heck yes this is von Willebrand disease.
  • VW is the most common inherited bleeding disorder.
  • It has a frequency of 1% of the population, although some go undiagnosed.
  • There are over 20 variants of VW, which can be grouped as follows:
Major Types of von Willebrand Disease

Type Incidence              Description
I   70-80% Quantitave defect with low levels of vWF
IIa    10-15% Qualitative defect, normal levels of vWF, but they don't combine to form high molecular weight multimers
IIb    Rare Qualitative defect with loss of highest molecular weight multimers; thrombocytopenia
III   Very rare Total absence of vWF. Autosomal recessive
Plt-type    Rare "Pseudo-von Willebrand disease" Defect in GP-Ib; thrombocytopenia with large platelets
Acquired   Associated with autoimmune diseases and malignancies.
  • Here are the common tests we use to diagnose von Willebrand disease.
