Mechanisms
of Heat Regulation |
Causes of
Fever |
- To increase body temperature
- Muscular work
- Shivering
- Cellular metabolism
- Vasoconstriction
- Seeking warm places
- To lower body temperature
- Vasodilatation
- Sweating
- Seeking cold places
|
- Infection
- Tissue injury
- Infarction
- Trauma
- Malignancy
- Immune mediated disorders
- Endocrine disorders
|
Production of fever
- Tissue injury, infection, etc stimulate
monocytes to release
- Interleukin 1, TNF and Interferon alpha.
- These agents cause hypothalmic production
of Prostaglandin E.
- Prostaglandin E causes reset of
temperature set-point.
- Increased heat generation and conservation
produces fever.
