Fever is one of the most common complaints that
causes a person to seek medical help.
- Four basic clinical categories
- Patients with fever and obvious symptoms
and/or localizing signs.
- Those with fever and skin rash
- Those with fever and lymphadenopathy
- Those with fever but no other symptom or
localizing sign.
- The majority of patients with fever as their
only complaint will either
- Defervesce spontaneously, or
- Develop localizing clinical or laboratory
findings within 2 - 3 weeks.
- Unexplained and persistent fever beyond 3
weeks should be considered an FUO.
