Chapter 6: The Nervous System

The nervous system can be divided into the central nervous system and the peripheral nervous system. The central nervous system (CNS) includes the brain and spinal cord, while the peripheral nervous system (PNS) includes the cranial nerves, spinal nerves, sensory receptors, and ganglia. 	The CEREBRUM is the thinking, seeing, hearing, emotional and voluntary movement part of our brain. Click for slide page.
	The CEREBELLUM coordinates skeletal muscle movement, and helps maintain balance and posture. Click for slide page.
	The gray matter has the appearance of a fat letter 'H' when the SPINAL CORD is viewed in cross section. Click for slide page.
	PERIPHERAL NERVE - CROSS SECTION. Under high magnification the axon appears as a dark spot surrounded by a lighter circular area, the myelin sheath. Click for slide page.
