Mrs. O'Dea's cancer is the common variety and was found at a relatively localized stage.
  • Stage 2 means the primary tumor is between 2 and 5 cm and
  • Nodal status is two or fewer regional lymph nodes are positive for tumor.
  • There is no 'organ' metastasis, such as lung liver or bone marrow involvement.

Because of her nodal status and tumor size, Mrs. O'Dea was advised to undergo:

  • Adjunctive chemotherapy for six cycles, she is currently in her 4th cycle.
  • To be followed by breast and nodal bed radiation and
  • Finally, 5 years of Tamoxifen therapy to block any stimulus of estrogen to any remaining tumor cells.
