Laboratory values with APS
 
  • Thrombocytopenia
  • Moderate to high anti-cardiolipin antibodies
    • Either IgG or IgM,
    • On two occasions 12 weeks apart.
  • Other serology:
    • ANA may be present in low titers.
    • Anti-ss DNA frequently seen.
    • Coombs +/-, maybe hemolytic anemia.
  • Antiphospholipid antibodies
    • IgG, IgM or even IgA.
    • Directed against proteins of the clotting system that bind to the phospholipids.
      • Prothrombin.
      • Beta2-Glycoprotein-1 (B2-GP1).

OK, so we have a state of hypercoagulability masquerading as a prolonged aPTT.
