Acute lymphoblastic leukemia / lymphoma (ALL)

The defining feature of acute lymphoblastic leukemia/lymphoma (ALL) is the presence of the lymphoblast.
  • Highly immature lymphocytic precursor of either T or B lineage.

Lymphoblasts

Acute lymphoblastic leukemia:

  • Leukemia represents the majority of lymphoblastic malignancies (85%)
  • These are Pre-B cell tumors.
  • This is the classic ALL of childhood.
Acute lymphoblastic lymphoma:
  • Less common (15%)
  • Pre-T cell tumors.
  • Adolescent males.
  • Mediastinal and/or thymic involvement.
