Welcome to Kenya
- Formerly a British colony, Kenya gained
independence in 1963 and has been a republic since 1964.
- The country has a varied landscape of
plateaus and high mountains.
- The climate ranges from arid to
semi-arid and only 18% of its 600,000 square km is arable.
- Eldoret all but sits on the equator,
which virtually divides Kenya in half.
- The country is home to many different
ethnic groups and regional languages.
- Swahili is the principal language
although English is common.

however the growth rates has been declining since 1979 and now stands at
2.7%.
