Dehydration

  • Severe dehydration is often seen with diarrheal diseases, especially in children
  • Just water replacement often leads to hyponatremia.
    • Osmotic swelling of the brain
    • Headaches, seizures, coma
  • Replacement of sodium must be done slowly to prevent

Hepatic failure

  • Herbal toxins
  • Viral hepatitis
  • Cirrhosis and hepatic coma
    • ascites, mental status and flapping tremor
  • Alcohol related
  • Hypovolemia and electrolyte imbalance
